Lt. Governor against increasing legislators term limits

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska's second in command is *against* extending term limits for state senators.

Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy says he believes two - terms is enough time for lawmakers to get things accomplished.

Today voters have the opportunity to extend term limits from two - terms to three - terms.

But Sheehy says members of Nebraska's executive branch get only eight years at their position. The Republican says he feels if they can do it, so can members of the legislature.

"I'm not personally convinced that moving that to 12 years really is going to help us if they haven't had the ability to get their work done in that 8 years," says Sheehy.

But the Lieutenant Governor says he supports the amendment to increase lawmakers' salary for the first time in more than 20 years.
