County Clerk happy with voter turnout

Posted: Updated:

Voter turnout in the Panhandle yesterday didn't break any records, but plenty of people still cast their vote.

County Clerk Vera Dulaney says about 59 percent of Scotts Bluff County voted yesterday which isn't quite the record reached in 2008.

"One reason why is because we have more registered voters now and so now that always changes the percentage.   The more registered voters you have then it lowers your percentage a little bit so that was, we have over 24,000 registered voters in Scotts Bluff County."

Officials estimate that 67 percent of Nebraska's voters participated in Tuesday's election.

That means voter turnout fell short of the 71 percent that Secretary of State John Gale predicted beforehand.
