Colorado's marijuana legalization brings no change to Nebraska

Posted: Updated:

The passage of an initiative to legalize marijuana for recreational use passed in Colorado, causing concern for some in Nebraska and other neighboring states.

The state will regulate the adult use and sale of cannabis like alcohol.

Still, the Drug Enforcement Administration reiterated its stance that marijuana is an illegal drug and possessing, using, or selling it is a crime.

The D.E.A is reviewing the ballot initiatives at this time.

Scotts Bluff State Patrol says it's still an illegal drug in Nebraska and Wyoming.

"We probably will see an increase in arrests, we saw an increase in arrests when the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes in Colorado came about, and if they do pass this law it becomes effective in 2014."

And of course, driving under the influence of any illegal substance will still land you in jail no matter what state you're in.
