United Way mid-way through "teaming up for a better tomorrow"

Posted: Updated:

The United Way of Western Nebraska is nearing their lofty goal, to raise money for local nonprofit organizations.

The goal: 360,000 dollars.

Executive Director Stephanie Black says the recent Duck Dash brought in about 80,000 dollars.

While she won't say how much money has been raised so far, she did say they're well on their way to achieving their goal.

Black says local nonprofit's depend on the money raised to stay afloat throughout the year and to help people in the community, particularly those affected by the recession.

"People have lost jobs or downsized and maybe taken a job that doesn't pay as well so we're finding that people the ends are not meeting like they should be even though they are working so there are a lot of people that are utilizing our agencies and needing assistance."

Their campaign, with a slogan dubbed, "Teaming up for a Better Tomorrow," ends in December.
