Middle school students take over the Scottsbluff YMCA

Posted: Updated:

A Scottsbluff community center opens its doors exclusively to area children.

The YMCA was open only for area middle schoolers Saturday night. From 6 to 8 p.m., kids had full reign at the "Y" and its amenities.

Triumphs were had on the basketball courts, and kids made friends (and enemies) on the dodge ball court.

But most importantly- it offered an escape for a safe and fun night out on the town.

"I know in this town, there's not really much for middle school kids to do in a constructive environment," explains YMCA camp director Trevor Coxbill. "So I chose that age range to give them something to do to keep them out of trouble and to keep their minds and bodies busy and active."

Each child's admission included a canned food item that will be donated to area food pantries.

This was just the first of what may be many "teen nights" at the YMCA.
