Second grade students at Westmoor Elementary get a special Veterans Day visitor

Posted: Updated:

Second graders at Westmoor Elementary also got into the Veterans Day spirit with a surprise visitor.

Cinndy Plummer's second grade class along with three other classes had the honor of asking a soldier any question they'd like.

Cinndy's son, Jarres Plummer is an 18 year old in the Army.

He just finished his basic training and is home for his ten day leave.

The class learned about his training, uniforms, leaders and experiences. And got to ask questions in an informal setting.

The Plummers say this is their first Veterans Day since Plummer joined the army four months ago.

Today means different things to both mother and son.

"We've been talking about the constitution all year, learning the preamble and a song to go with it. I believe it's important for these kids to know that freedom isn't free."

"I think the tougher thing is coming back for ten days and getting that feeling, then going back into it."

The Plummer's say they hope having Jarres there will give the kids a face to put to the respectable army name.
