Nebraska Public Power District increases rates for 2013

Nebraskans will soon have to pay more to turn on their lights.

The Nebraska Public Power District's board of directors has approved a rate increase for all of its customers.

The rate increase will be 3.75%.

The approved rate is down .25% from the original estimate.

The increase will be applied to debt payments and capital expenditures to investments in plants and facilities.

The rate increase will go into effect January first.
