Monument trail plan presented by W.N.C.C students

Last nights meeting in Gering brought some new ideas to the table for the Scotts Bluff National Monument trails.

The public meeting was held at the Farm and Ranch Museum to discuss the draft trails plan for Scotts Bluff National Monument.

A student group at Western Nebraska Community College is getting some real world experience by developing the plan.

The new plan will guide the operations, use of the trail system, expansion and restoration of the trail's over the next 15 years.

The students are prepping for their presentation next week at the National Park Service's Regional Office.

Superintendent Ken Mabery says the students brought some great ideas to the table.

"They've come up with what they call an e-trail system. Just download an app to a smart phone and follow that app. That doesn't take any construction."

Maybery says once they get the plan completed it'll take at least six months until they see any progress.
