Operation Christmas child taking donations now

Posted: Updated:

People in the Panhandle are showing their generosity this week for the national campaign of Operation Christmas Child.

The mission is to provide children around the world with toys for the holiday season. The goal is to have over 3,000 shoe boxes filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items to send off. First Baptist Church serves as the main drop up point in Scottsbluff.   There are also drop–off spots around the Panhandle.    Area coordinator Carissa Smith says they already have over 600 after the first collection day and the community response has been great.

"I think it's a good event because it lets the community come together, not only to bring shoe boxes to help children all over the world but also to come together here at the collection center just to have fellowship and have some time to talk and just enjoy each others company."

To make a donation, drop off your goody–filled shoe box at the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff until Monday.
