Scottsbluff wastewater facility gets top honors

Posted: Updated:

A Scottsbluff utility is recognized for its top-notch performance.

The Nebraska Water Environment Association awarded Scottsbluff with the 2012 Scott Wilber Award. It is given for outstanding operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility in the interest of water pollution control.

This is the tenth straight year the city's wastewater facility has won the award.

Water Reclamation Supervisor Lynn Garton says Scottsbluff has been proactive on the issues associated with contaminant removal.

"We do a lot more than we actually have to do," explains Garton. "There's a lot of communities that do the bare minimum- and that's fine- but we really try to do as much as we possibly can and provide a good quality affluent that leaves our facility that's clearer than the water in the river."

The Wastewater Department also received a Bronze Safety Award from the Nebraska Water Environment Association.
