After four years of no pay increases Gering City Council members get a wage boost.
Monday Gering City Council members approved a 4% increase in compensation for each of the four years they havent which is about $500 more per year.
Gering's Mayor will also receive an extra $500 per year.
Only one member voted against the pay raise and some people in Gering are skeptical.
Council members will receives $3,500 for their service.
And the town Mayor is paid $6,500 each year.
Gering citizen Art Benzel says he thinks the raise may be incentive for others to run for city council.
"Well as far as putting it on the ballot, lets make it easy - why make it difficult and go through all of that?"
The raise will go into effect December 10th when recently elected members of the council are sworn in.
