Several state agencies in Scottsbluff find a new home

Posted: Updated:

A number of state service agencies has found a new home in Scottsbluff.

Ten state departments and commissions are now operating out of the new state office building on Broadway next to Safeway.

The building is the new home to the Nebraska Brand Commission and Economic Development Department, among other agencies.

Six of the departments relocated from the State Patrol's building on Avenue I and the three others moved from leased commercial properties.

The Broadway location was chosen by the state because of its central location. State workers say moving the agencies together allows them to share resources.

The lone agency that remains at the state offices is the Nebraska State Patrol.

The Patrol has been approved to expand its *current* 10,000 square feet complex, to 29,000 square feet, the entire span of the building.

Investigators and troopers who currently share offices will be given individual offices.

The training rooms and offices in the basement will be relocated to the main floor for easier access for state patrol employees.

Unfortunately, these changes are not going to happen right away, explains Lt. Lance Rogers. "The Department of Administrative Services in the state of Nebraska will be doing some remodeling projects for us to help us remove walls and set up some other walls as well as run electrical and comm lines.

Lt. Rogers says he estimates the transition will take at least a year to complete.
