Scottsbluff fire department holds open house

Posted: Updated:

People from around the Panhandle got to step into the shoes of a firefighter today.

The Scottsbluff Fire Department held an open house inviting the public to have a look inside and even take a ride on the truck ladder.   There was something for everybody, with some hamburgers and hot dogs mixed in.

Fire chief Dana Miller says this day is for fun and to show the public the men and women behind the uniforms.

"A lot of times when we interact in the public its when there's some major event going on and there's bad things happening and we like to let people see the other side of us.  We're family men and ladies and we have kids and grand kids and everything and we want them to see we're just like they are."

Miller also says the department is looking for volunteer firefighters.   To learn more drop by the station.
