Open house puts attendees in firefighter's shoes

Posted: Updated:

Yesterday people of all ages found out exactly what it takes to be a firefighter.

Adorned with the firefighter gear, people were put to the test competing in a showdown to see who could complete the course fastest.   Tests along the way included pulling a fire hose climbing steps with a hose, carrying tools and rescuing victims.   The winner receives his or her name on a plaque in the fire department.

"We're going let kids try it in a modified event and then bigger adults if they want to sign up too. Just have an opportunity to kind of see a little bit, get a little taste of what it's like to be a firefighter."

If all these activities sounds like fun, you can stop by the fire department to find out more about becoming a volunteer firefighter.
