NSP gearing up for Click it or Ticket campaign

Posted: Updated:

More state troopers will be on Nebraska highways this week as they participate in a national enforcement campaign.

"Click it or Ticket" is the message that troopers are trying to convey to reduce fatalities on Nebraska roads.

Troop E in Scottsbluff has been approved funding for 80 overtime hours this week. That means more troopers will be out, making sure drivers are following the rules of the road.

"Obviously, our goal is not to issue citations," explains Lt. Lance Rogers. "Our goal is to make sure the motoring public is safe. Our goal would be to have no fatalities at all state wide- that would be perfect. So what we need people to do is just voluntary compliance with the law, drive the speed limit, and wear their seatbelts."

More than half of this years deaths on Nebraska's highways involved people not wearing their seatbelts.
