Area business doing well on "Small Business Saturday"

Posted: Updated:

"People comment that it's a nice relaxing place to browse."

The Book Nook in Scottsbluff offers consumers a more intimate shopping experience.

Something many area businesses are capitalizing on this 'Small Business Saturday.'

"Last Saturday was a record setting day for us, the most traffic and sales in one day."

Andy Unrein and his wife took over the book nook in June and so far they are encouraged by its success.

He attributes that to the "experience" of a hometown store.

"You can buy about any book you want and have it shipped to your home or read electronically but it doesn't have the experience of discovering things you don't know about."

All down Broadway here in Scottsbluff small businesses line up hoping that shoppers will spend some time with them this holiday season.   They say it can make a lasting impact on the local economy.

"You get a quality of service and like we try to stock local authors that big box stores.  You know you're getting more of a one size fits all experience.   Walmart is much the same all throughout the country, so it does help the economy."

All reasons Unrein hopes shoppers head his way for their Christmas shopping.

"I think it's a great way to remind people that the resources are here in this community."
