Scottsbluff robbery suspect makes first court appearance; asks for $1M bond

Posted: Updated:

The man accused of robbing a Scottsbluff bank makes his initial appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court.

42-year-old Michael Scott allegedly robbed Valley Bank on Wednesday, and was arrested a day–and–a–half later.

He now faces charges of robbery, theft by deception, and possession of methamphetamine.

During his video-conference call with Judge James Worden, the judge asked if Scott had money for an attorney. Scott flippantly replied, "I can't even buy any Jolly Ranchers."

Afterwards, Scott facetiously asked for his $750,000 bond to be increased to one-million dollars. Judge Warden had bailiffs escort Scott after that remark.

Bond remains at $750,000, and a date for his preliminary hearing is pending.
