"Big" Milt Creagh tells area students the dangers of drugs & alcohol

Posted: Updated:

Students are schooled on the dangers of drugs and alcohol this morning at Scottsbluff High School.

Motivational speaker "Big" Milt Creagh took a no-nonsense attitude with this morning's crowd. He shared stories of some of the 200,000 students he speaks to on a yearly basis.

Some of the talking points that Creagh hit on were cyber-bullying, drug use, and alcohol abuse.

"How many in this room," asked Creagh, "Know at least one person in your age group who you know for a fact- you're not guessing- you know for a fact- has already started, already began, or already tried drinking?" More than 75% of the students in the auditorium proceeded to raise their hands.

Creagh spends most of the year talking to teens about these issues that can directly affect their future. "Well I don't think they're the most at risk, and I don't think they're necessarily the most impressionable either," explains Creagh, "But I think they're part of the population we need to address."

Creagh's last two appearances were made possible through the Elk's Club, and local representatives Mark Flohr and Gary Cannon were on hand for today's presentation.

"Big Milt" will be doing a final presentation tonight (Tuesday) at Gering High School, it is open to the public and starts at seven.
