Nebraska's grad rates top in the ranks

Posted: Updated:

The grades are in and Nebraska earns good marks for high school graduation rates.

The state is fourth nationally with 86% of seniors graduating in 2011.

Results for the U.S. Department of Education's first ever study of this kind came out this week.

It focuses on a new method for determining graduation rates.

It's called the Cohort Graduation Rate.

It asks states to track students from ninth grade on to determine how many students in each group graduate after four years.

Nebraska's 2011 five year Cohort Grad Rate was higher at 89%.

The state's goal is to graduate 90% or more of their high school students
