Adrian Smith discusses Farm Bill and Fiscal Cliff

Posted: Updated:

Congressman Adrian Smith has his own worries about the lame duck session and where it leaves Nebraska.

Smith held a press conference to answer questions about the looming Farm Bill, he says he's advocating for a five year version.

The Congressman says the issue of spending on nutrition programs is a big problem.

The growth of food stamps in Nebraska has quadrupled in 12 years and doubled in the last four years.

Smith's concerns with the growth are the requirements to qualify and loopholes people are finding to get food stamps.

"That is simply not sustainable and especially when you look at the broad, overly broad qualifications."

Smith says both parties own this deadlock on the bill.
