Nebraska's inheritance taxes may be repealed

Posted: Updated:

If Nebraska's Inheritance Tax is repealed there may be a good amount of revenue lost.

Governor Dave Heineman has put on the pressure to eliminate taxes used to pay for road maintenance and other services.

Lawmakers are looking for ways to replace the money Nebraska counties would lose if the Inheritance Tax is repealed.

The Open Sky Policy Institute, a Nebraska tax policy think tank says eliminating these taxes would make counties cut services, drain reserves or raise property taxes.

Other Nebraska lawmaker's say it may be a good idea to use revenue from the State Motor Vehicle Tax.
