Controlled burns scheduled in the Panhandle

Posted: Updated:

You may notice some smoke coming from state parks this month.

But don't worry, it's just controlled burns that the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is scheduling.

The burns will start December 15th and go through April 30th at Smith Falls State Park, Chadron State Park, Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area and at the Lake Minataire State Recreation Area.

The commission says they will be burning piles of brush and tree debris.

The removal of trees from the burned areas of Chadron State Park will begin this month and may be burned as well.
