Scotts Bluff National Monument hosts Christmas on the Prairie

Posted: Updated:

Christmas on the Prairie would've been a lot different from Christmas today.

The Scotts Bluff National Monument held their annual Christmas on the prairie event this weekend.

The rangers taught kids how to make ornaments like they did in the pioneer days, there was a band playing Christmas carols and of course there was treats.

Park Ranger Leslie Gaunt says it's one of her favorite events and she even sewed her own pioneer dress for the occasion.

She says the point of the event is to teach the kids you don't need money to make Christmas special.

"Well part of it is learning how things were then, that you don't have to have a store in order to have a Christmas. You can make your own Christmas."

The Monument participated along side the Western Nebraska Arts Center and the Farm and Ranch Museum's Christmas events.
