Crawford High School continues its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
LED lighting was installed in the schools gym, cafeteria, and multi-purpose room at the start of the school year.
The lights are 40 percent more energy efficient than the school's old halogen lights.
Nebraska Public Power District gave Crawford Public schools $3200 for the switch.
Superintendent Dick Lesher says he's pleased anytime the district can use capital funding to make long-term improvements on fixed costs."I think this is- the way I understand it- the only gym in the Midwest that is actually lit entirely by LED."
This project, along with the recently installed wind turbine and solar trailer, have noticeably decreased the school's utility costs.
