Pearl Harbor Anniversary

Posted: Updated:

Today marks the anniversary of a historical day.

More than 70 years ago was the surprise attack by Japan on the U.S. Navy Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

The attack took 2,400 American lives and pushed the U.S. into World War II.

Congress has designated December 7th as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Each year the President signs a proclamation ordering flags to be flown at half staff.

Governor Dave Heineman reminds Nebraskans to fly their flags at half staff to remember the victims and honor the heroes of Pearl Harbor.
