Smoked turkey & prime rib reign supreme for Christmas dinner

Posted: Updated:

The most popular entrée for the holiday season isn't necessarily a Christmas ham anymore.

Staff at Markey's Meat Market in Gering say that prime rib and smoked turkey are their number one sellers this year.

Panhandle residents have been putting their Christmas pre-orders in since Thanksgiving.

Staff says that this year, there is no clear favorite between the turkey and the prime rib.

"Honestly, we're very close on both of them," says Brody Gies. "We do have an equal amount of almost both of them. The prime rib is definitely the biggest thing for the dinner. But a lot of people pick up smoked turkey to serve before hand or a late night snack after your holiday meals."

It's not too late to get your Christmas dinner orders in. But staff says the sooner, the better.
