Holiday at the Zoo is exciting for the animals too

Posted: Updated:

The Riverside Zoo celebrates the holidays with Panhandle children today.

In the company of wild animals, children who came to the zoo today got to make ornaments and decorate the Riverside Zoo Christmas tree.

Kim Miedema, the museum's Education Curator says this is a great time of year to visit the zoo because the animals are actually more active.

"We're also teaching them about our animals and having the animals open their presents and that's another kind of enrichment for them. We wrap boxes and inside we're hiding different presents for the animals."

Miedema says this morning the tigers and lions ripped into their gifts and the kids couldn't contain their excitement.
