Heineman warns public to be safe while driving

Posted: Updated:

Icy roads and fender benders were the story around the Panhandle this morning.

Multiple minor accidents were reported around Scottsbluff as a result of the winter weather that blanketed the region overnight.

Governor Heineman held a press conference, reminding the public to be safe while traveling during the winter months.

He says calling 511 to get the status of road conditions is always a good idea, especially if you plan to be on the road for a substantial amount of time.

"Heavy snow, snowfall and extreme cold can immobilize an entire region.   The best way to keep your family and yourself is being prepared for winter weather before it strikes," says Heineman.

Some other tips include having plenty of gas, blankets and non–perishable food stocked in your vehicle.
