Senators oppose Hagel as Secretary of State

Posted: Updated:

President Obama's possible choice for Secretary of State is under scrutiny.

The President's top runner is Republican Chuck Hagel, but that choice is raising serious concerns with some of his former Senate colleagues.

A few Republicans and one Democrat have publicly announced their reservations.

The criticisms come a week after U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew from consideration for the position.

The opposition to Hagel among Republican Senators is growing.

Hagel has served 12 years in the Senate.

If nominated and confirmed by Senate, he would replace Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
