With the rise of shootings in the U.S., states around the country are seeing increases in gun permit applications.
Nebraska is no exception.
Scottsbluff's Sheriff Mark Overman says the rise in applications is unprecedented.
Overman says after the Sandy Hook shooting, he saw a ten fold increase and expects it to continue.
The permits in Nebraska are only for a handgun and expire in three years.
Sheriff Overman says a task force meeting will take place statewide to discuss the rise in applications.
