Many people are working this Christmas holiday

Posted: Updated:

Many Americans are able to spend Christmas with family and loved ones. While many men and women are spending the holiday working.

Caregivers at hospitals and nursing homes, railroad employees, and first responders all punched their time card today.

Scottsbluff Fire Department Captain Dan Hubbs says a crew of five is currently in the midst of a 48-hour shift.

He says it's tough working on holidays, but it all comes with the territory.

"It's definitely something we know is part of the job," explains Hubbs. "It's tough when you have to leave your families at home, especially on Christmas and more of your family oriented holidays. It's just part of the job and something we have to be able to provide safety for the rest of the citizens in the community. And our families usually understand that."

Captain Hubbs says the call volume on Christmas is about average to any other typical day.
