Scottsbluff Fire Department reminds us of firework safety tips

Posted: Updated:

While fireworks can add to a New Years celebration, The Scottsbluff Fire Department wants to remind the public of the dangers that come with them.

Some quick tips that can prevent an accident from happening include having adult supervision if children are nearby, keeping a bucket of water around and make sure fireworks are completely cool before throwing them away.

The Fire Department says that while there is snow on the ground, the area is still very dry and a firework could cause a fire.

"You know that same risks are there now than were there in July for the Fourth of July.  Just want to make sure you're doing this out in an open area, away from homes, you don't want to be pointing them at other people."

Fireworks can only be enjoyed in an eight–hour window starting at 4:30 PM New Years Eve.
