Flu Season continues to hit Panhandle hard

Posted: Updated:

One type of sickness is showing up in big numbers of people across the country including the Panhandle.

Cases of the flu are popping up all over the country, ahead of schedule. Registered Nurse Sandy Preston says Regional West typically doesn't see this many cases for another month.

She says there isn't a big reason why the flu is worse this year but does say it is usually hardest on the most vulnerable children and the elderly.

"We are seeing quite a spike statewide, nationally over the last two weeks, locally we've seen many more visits and some admissions, across the age span," says Preston.

Preston also says that you can still get a flu shot, just drop by St Mary's at Regional West for more information.
