Miss Western Nebraska gives back to children

A Panhandle pageant queen takes her title and philanthropy seriously.

Miss Western Nebraska, JaCee Pilkington, spearheaded her fundraising in Gering and Bridgeport this weekend.

Pilkington competes for Miss Nebraska in June but preparing is a year–long process.

To be able to compete, contestants for Miss Nebraska must raise funds for a cause or charity.

The Children's Miracle Network was JaCee's choice, so proceeds from kids meals at the Steel Grill in Bridgeport as well as Gering, go to the Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha.

"Most people have been pretty excited.   They're kind of a little taken back when they see the blonde girl and the crown walking around the restaurant but once they figure out its for the children's hospital, we've had a pretty good response," says Pilkington.

Pilkington says she raised about 2,000 dollars over the past two nights and is very thankful to the community.
