Governor Dave Heineman says Chuck Hagel will bring valuable military experience to the Pentagon.
The Governor has not said whether he would back Hagel's confirmation, but he did say he wanted to leave the decision to Republican Nebraska Senators Mike Johanns and Deb Fischer.
Heineman has military experience himself, he says Hagel's combat experience in Vietnam would serve him well as the Secretary of Defense.
The Governor also says he'd be happy to see a Nebraskan fill the job.
But the Republican Governor says he thinks Hagel may have angered many Republicans with his criticism of the Iraq War and his support for Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Bob Kerrey.
