A new study shows that many Americans don't realize all the health problems that obesity can cause.
More than 7 in 10 out of the roughly 1,000 people surveyed said heart disease and diabetes are the most serious consequences of diabetes. Only seven percent mentioned maybe the most serious result of obesity, cancer.
Doctors say that fat increases the risk of developing concerns of the colon, breast, prostate and other areas. Regional West Doctor John Spethman says it's important to get a leg up on these diseases.
"It's going manage you, instead of you managing it and in the long term it maybe ends up what ends your life prematurely," says Spethman.
Only fiftee15% knew obesity contributes to arthritis, something Doctor Spethman says affects countless amounts of people each year.
