Airport Board meets to discuss 2013 ideas

Posted: Updated:

The Western Nebraska Regional Airport hit its 10,000 boarding mark last year, but now comes the planning for this year.

Darwin Skelton, the airport's Director held a meeting today with professionals from all different backgrounds in the community.

The topics included, tourism and how we can bring more people to fly to Scottsbluff.

Skelton says the new project the airport is doing with their federal money will definitely help bring people through because there will be a security area with bathrooms, vending machines and a lot more seating.

"I would see them tend to get away from here because we have no place to de-board them and keep them in security then they have to resend them through security which becomes a challenge."

Karla Neidan-Treeks, the Director of the Gering Convention Visitors Bureau says there's a big opportunity for tourism with our history in Scottsbluff.

"Where a family may only have a day or two to spend, the baby boomer that's interested in heritage culture of our area come for a week or ten days."

Skelton says all of the ideas and brainstorming helped him shift focus for the new year.
