Regional West holds extra Flu Clinic in response to outbreak

Posted: Updated:

This years flu has the nation sick as a dog, but Regional West is stepping up to help.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services strongly recommends everyone six months and older get a flu shot.

One of the worst flu seasons we've had in a decade has pushed Regional West to add an additional Flu Clinic today.

Sandy Preston, the Immunization Coordinator at Regional West says this year the flu vaccine protects against two strains of the flu, type A and one strain of type B.

"I've been in the medical field for 15 years and this is certainly one of the earliest spikes in the number of cases."

Preston says usually in the Panhandle we don't see this spike until late January or February.
