Studies showing kids going in wrong direction for blood pressure

One statistic has Doctors around the Panhandle concerned.

Studies are showing that young adults are unhealthier than ever and their blood pressure is rising.   High blood pressure can lead to heart failure and is largely caused by obesity and other weight issues.

Doctors call high blood pressure the silent killer, often because patients don't know they have it until it's too late.   Dr John Spethman says a factor can be caused by our dependence on fast food.

"I know that we all like it but it's set up that its more economically feasible and shopping at the grocery store and frankly healthy things cost more," says Spethman.

Spethman says most times it takes a full lifestyle choice to make the change.
