Miss Wyoming makes final round of Miss America competition

Posted: Updated:

It was a storied run for Torrington native and Miss Wyoming 2012 Lexie Madden.

During the 92nd annual Miss America competition, there were 53 finalists vying for one crown.

Madden told viewers during the introductions that, "The four corners of my state prove that it's hip to be square. Your Miss Wyoming, Lexie Madden."

After that, judges were ready to announce the 15 semi-finalists selected from preliminary competitions leading up to Saturday's pageant. Miss Montana was selected as the fans choice, and only 15 others would move on.

Madden was selected as the 5th contestant to move on to the next round.

Miss Wyoming then changed to strut her stuff in the swimsuit portion of the competition. Contestants were judged on their commitment to health, fitness, and confidence. Madden wore a red 2-piece swimsuit, and then had to wait to see if she made the cut for the round of 12.

As announcer Chris Harrison announced the names of ladies that would move on... only 3 spots remained, until Madden was called down to move onto the evening-wear portion of the pageant.

Madden wore a black gown- stating that her color choice was timeless. Afterwards in the talent portion, Miss Wyoming performed an original piece on the piano.

After the talent portion, the final 5 finalists were asked to answer a question relating to current U.S. issues. If their name was not called... the contestants were done.

The first question went to Miss Oklahoma. Then Miss South Carolina. Question 3 went to Miss New York, and question 4 to Miss Iowa. The 5th and final question, however, was for Miss Wyoming!

She was asked by McKayla Maroney if parents are being too quick to medicate for attention deficit disorder.

"It comes down to a parent's choice, but ultimately if they want to medicate their child they also need to look for alternative options to truly fix the problem and not just cover it up with medication," said Madden.

From there, it was time to crown Miss America 2013.

5 finalists on the stage, and only one would be crowned.

Runner up #4 was Miss Iowa.

4 finalists left.

Runner up #3 was announced... "Miss Wyoming, Lexie Madden." And thus ended her epic run for the crown.

Ultimately, Miss New York, Mallory Hytes Hagan took the crown. But folks across KOTA Territory watching Saturday's pageant were surely wowed and impressed with the poise and demeanor that Madden carried throughout the pageant.

Congratulations once again to Miss Wyoming, Lexie Madden!
