U.S. Senator Deb Fischer tackles government spending in weekly GOP address

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska's newest U.S. Senator had the privilege of delivering this week's  weekly GOP address.

Republican Deb Fischer says Washington must stop it's out of control spending. She says tax payers from Nebraska and across the country are tired of the lack of progress on reducing our national debt.

Fischer says the debt is now exceeding $16 trillion, with $4 billion being added each day.

She says this is not going to be solved by raising taxes, but by drastically cutting spending.

"The problem is not that the American people are taxed too little," explains Fischer. "It's that the federal government spends too much. While I may be new to Washington, I'm no stranger to making tough choices."

Fischer says in order to cut spending, lawmakers need to find ways to reduce the costs of social security, medicare, and medicaid.
