Hung jury in child sex assault trial of registered sex offender

It is a hung jury… and effectively a mistrial for a registered sex offender accused of inappropriately touching a 9-year-old girl this past August.

52-year-old Timothy Fuentes of Scottsbluff was charged with one count of sexual assault of a child.

The jury heard two days worth of testimony from 16 different witnesses… including the victim.

But after deliberating for the better part of the day… no verdict could be rendered.

Scotts Bluff County Deputy Attorney Scott Blaha says that if prosecutors decide to do so, they can re-file and start the trial from scratch.
