This month and next, the state will have extra patrol out on the streets.
It's seatbelt enforcement time of year for the troopers, making sure people are clicking it before they end up with a ticket.
Scottsbluff State Patrol says they have 45% to 55% of compliance when it comes to seatbelt use.
But that's only a little more than half of people.
This means the other half are taking a gamble with their lives.
State Trooper David Hunter says he usually writes seatbelt tickets after stopping the driver for something else.
"You know, right now with the news media's concentration on it - they're usually very receptive of it. They know that they should be wearing it."
Hunter says he's seen a number of accidents, where a seatbelt could've saved someone's life.
