A blown transformer causes the closure of two Scotts Bluff County buildings today.
The Gering Fire Department was dispatched to a fire in the boiler room at the County Administration offices shortly after 11:30 this morning.
A blown power transformer knocked out the power to both the administration building and the court house. Patrons were notified of the closure by signs hung up on the doors.
Gering Fire Chief Jay Templar says there wasn't a fire… but plenty of smoke, causing enough damage to shut down business for the rest of the day.
"Did melt some of the wires and stuff inside the box, the electronics are here," says Templar. "And now we're just waiting. City has lost a phase of power trying to figure out what's going on to be able to see if we can restore power."
The offices are expected to re-open on Thursday.
