Tort claim filed by Lyman family against the village and county

A KOTA Territory family intends to file a lawsuit against Scotts Bluff County and the Village of Lyman.

Raul and Lupita Ayala have filed a tort claim regarding the September shooting of their Rottweiler. Their dog "Bos" was shot and killed after allegedly attacking Lyman Police Officer Ray Huffman.

The Ayala's claim the shooting was wrongful and negligent. Police chief Jeff Chitwood says Huffman was acting in self defense.

The Ayala's are seeking $300,000 in damages.

The village and the county will have 6 months to respond to the claim.
