Justice for Juliette one step closer

Posted: Updated:

A grand jury sparked its investigating into the murder of two year old Juliette Geurts, after receiving a number of signatures from petitioners last summer.

Juliette's mother, Charyse Geurts and Dustin Chauncey now face charges in connection to the toddler's 2008 death because of those signatures.

"I am really hoping for the highest punishment, and absolutely positively no plea deals," Jessica Gladson said.

Jessica Gladson has been there since the beginning, fighting to get justice for Juliette.

Gladson says a weight was lifted off her shoulders when she heard the indictment.

"Oh my goodness, I was so happy. Happy for everybody, happy for the family, happy for Juliette and especially Jaelynn," Gladson said.

Gladson's happiness also stems from the key role she played in the petition process.

"It's just a miracle, it's one small step. You know, at the time it seems like a huge step but you look at everything we've had to do to get this far, and it's just fabulous," Gladson said.

After four years, and 1,770 signatures later, Juliette may finally get the justice she deserves.

Chauncey has been charged with child abuse resulting in death, involuntary manslaughter and for giving false information to investigators.

Charyse Geurts has been charged with being an accessory to a felony.

"In this day and age, there are way too many plea deals. So I hope that some how, some way they are convicted and they are held accountable for what they did," Gladson said.

Gladson says the community keeps her fighting.

"If it wasn't for everybody joining together to fight for it, I don't think we would've gotten this far," Gladson said.

If convicted Chauncey could face life in prison, while Charyse Geurts faces a maximum sentence of six years.
