Torrington Lions Club holds chariot races

Posted: Updated:

People in Torrington channeled their inner Greek god over the weekend, in a good old fashioned chariot race.

Teams from across the region gallop to Torrington each year to compete in the Lion's club chariot races.

The event is obviously a unique one, drawing spectators from all around Wyoming and the Panhandle.   It isn't all just fun and games either, winners qualify for the World Championships in Utah.

The event serves as a fundraiser providing eye exams for underprivileged children and really makes a difference in the community. Lions Club member Patty Schaneman says she enjoys the comradery they get to experience with the different teams.

"You get to kind of visit with them, see how their teams are running, where they've been, how they've done and kind of catch us up and the whole community embraces this, it's just a very good thing," says Schaneman.

Schaneman says this event is great for the community's economy.
