Class is in session for Martin Luther King Day, and students want to celebrate their day "on" rather than a day "off".
Students at Western Nebraska Community College got the opportunity to get educated about Dr. King and all the things he's done for this nation.
Several on-campus groups were giving out free T-shirts to students who took a quiz on Martin Luther King.
Most students knew that he was a civil rights activist… and *some* knew that he promoted non-violence, "But a lot of people didn't know that he was awarded a Nobel peace prize in 1964," explains Yahosh Bonner of Res Life. "So that's something we're educating the students on."
United Leaders sponsor Rachel Gonzales is pleased at today's strong turnout. "I think it's very informational for them to get to know who this person was."
"I think he would like that," adds Bonner. "That we're here at school thinking about him as we're educating ourselves and improving our country."
WNCC will continue to celebrate diversity throughout the semester… and already have events lined up for Black History Month in February.
