Governor Dave Heineman today approved the route reviewed in the final evaluation report, which avoids the environmentally-sensitive Sand Hills region of Nebraska.
Heineman sent a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, notifying them of the accepted Nebraska route.
The Governor called a special session of the legislature in 2011 to revise a route that would avoid the Ogallala Aquifer. The legislature approved and Heineman signed two Legislative Bills that rerouted the controversial pipeline.
