A Wyoming Highway Trooper and his drug detection K-9 have seized just under 3 pounds of high grade marijuana destined for delivery in the Sheridan, Wyoming area during a traffic stop on Sunday.
The traffic stop was made approximately 2 miles south of Casper on northbound Interstate 25 for a speeding violation. During the contact with driver the Trooper could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The Trooper deployed his drug detection K-9 around the vehicle and the K-9 did alert. Once the K-9 was deployed inside the vehicle he alerted on a cardboard box in the rear seat of the vehicle and a duffle bag in the front floorboard area.
The cardboard box was found to contain a food saver type machine that seals plastic bags. In the duffle bag Troopers discovered the high grade marijuana in sealed bags. The marijuana has a street value of approximately $15,600.00.
The driver, 22 year-old Edwin Jacobs from the Sheridan area, faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Special Agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation are assisting the Wyoming Highway Patrol with this investigation.
So far, Agents and Troopers know that the load of marijuana originated in Colorado.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol K-9's are trained to detect narcotics and are utilized to conduct drug sniffs of vehicles to locate narcotics being transported from one location to another. The Wyoming Highway Patrol drug detecting K-9, Trooper and K-9 training and the K-9 equipment were purchased with a federal grant secured from HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area).
